How do I configure mail clients (such as Outlook) to access my email account?


Configuring Email Clients
Configuring Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express:
  • Open Outlook (Express)...
  • Click on "tools" and then "accounts"...
  • Click on the tab at the top that is labeled "Mail"...
  • On the right click on the "Add" button and select "Mail"...
  • Enter a display name. Then click next...
  • Select "I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use" and enter the email address that you setup in your control panel on the server. Then click next...
  • Select "POP3" at the top and enter your domain name for both the incoming and outgoing (i.e. - mail.YOURDOMAIN.com) servers and then click next...
  • Enter the user name and password and make sure there is NOT a check in the box next to where it says "Log on Using Secure Password Authentication" and click next...
  • Click "Finish"
  • Now you will see the email account that you just created. Click on the account to highlight it and click on the "Properties" button...
  • Click on the tab at the top that is labeled "Servers"...
  • Put a check in the box next to where it says "My server requires authentication"...
  • Click on the "Settings" button...
  • Make sure "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected...
  • Click "OK"...
  • Click "Apply"...
  • Click "OK"...
  • Click "Close"... Close your Outlook (Express) and the next time you open it up you will be ready to start sending and receiving email.
Configuring Netscape:
  • Open Preference Menu (Edit->Preference)
  • Open Mail Server Configuration Menu (Mail & Groups -> Mail Server)
  • Set Mail Server user name to email_account_name%yourdomain.com (For example, if your email account is joe@abc.com, you should enter joe%abc.com in the POP3 user name field)
  • Set Outgoing mail server to mail.yourisp.com
  • Set Incoming mail server to mail.yourdomain.com
  • Check POP3 as Mail Server Type
  • Uncheck Leave messages on server after retrieval
  • Click OK
Configuring Eudora:
  • Pull up Options Menu (Tools -> options)
  • Go to Host Menu
  • Set POP Account as email_account_name%yourdomain.com@mail.yourdomain.com (For example, if your email account is joe@abc.com, you should enter joe%abc.com@mail.abc.com in the POP Account field)
  • Set SMTP to mail.yourisp.com
  • Go to Personal Meun
  • Set Return Address to email_account_name@yourdomain.com
Configuring Other Mail Clients:
  • Set the pop account to email_account_name%yourdomain.com (For example, if your email account is joe@abc.com, you should enter joe%abc.com in the POP3 user name field)
  • Set the POP3 Server to mail.yourdomain.com
  • If you encounter any problems with mail retrieval, please email us at support@advancedwebdevelopment.net.

 

  • "How do I configure CuteFTP to upload my files to my site?
    Follow the instructions below to correctly configure CuteFTP.

      • Step 1: After launching CuteFTP, select "OTHER" as indicated below when asked to choose your ISP.
      • Step 2: Enter any label you wish to identify this site. This can be anything you want and has no effect on the connection to
      • your site.
  • Step 3: Enter the IP address of your site. This can be found in the welcome letter that you received immediately after signing up with UpTown.
  • Step 4: Enter the username and password that is contained in your welcome letter. These are case-sensitive and must be entered exactly as seen in the email.
  • Step 5: At this point, you are specifying what directory you want to upload from. This is the location on your computer that your web files are located.
  • Step 6: At this screen, check the box below if you wish to automatically connect to your site when CuteFTP is launched.
  • Step 7: When you see a popup window similar to this one, you have successfully connected. Click "OK".
  • Step 8: After you successfully connect, please place all files in the folder labeled /httpdocs.

    That's it! You've successfully connected to your webspace using CuteFTP.

 

 

Where do I put my files?
When you login via FTP, you will see at least one folder named /httpdocs. You must upload your files to that directory.

Please put your CGI files in the /cgi-bin folder that is OUTSIDE the /httpdocs folder.

This placement is for securty purposes and files placed here are still referenced by typing http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin
"Why can't I see my .htaccess files?
.htaccess files are hidden files by default.

Consult your FTP client documentation for instructions on how to make these files visible.

What if I need multiple servers to share one connection?
We can setup this scenario quite easily. You simply choose your connection and then pay an additional fee for each server. Contact us for more details.
Can I have full root access to my server?
Yes, you have full SSH access to your server.
How long until my account is setup?
Most servers can be ready within 48 hours.
What server management does AWD provide?
We handle all security patches, operating system upgrades and system/network connectivity monitoring. You simply manage your content. If you want us to completely manage your server (add sites, DNS, etc) - contact us for pricing based on your needs.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No, most of our contracts are month-to-month. Although you can save money and avoid some charges by signing an annual contract, the choice is yours.
You do not offer the server configuration I need. Can you customize your plans?

We will create a custom quote for you within 24 hours.
How many sites are on each server?
The number of sites will vary according to the load placed on the web server itself.

As a general rule, we never allow the server to be more than 50% utilized and rarely put more than 75 sites on any server - regardless of the load.

Most servers have less than 50 sites hosted on them.
What are the server specifications?
We have our servers custom built to ensure the highest quality of manufacture, as well as to ensure that we only use the best components.

Do you support PHP or ASP?
Yes. Each server is installed with the latest release of the PHP language and our Linux servers CAN run ASP.
Do you support mySQL?
Yes. Each server is installed with the latest release of mySQL database server.

Some of our hosting plans do require a set up fee for server configuration.
Do I get my own private CGI-BIN?
Yes. Each site is equipped with a private CGI-BIN to allow the execution of scripts.
Can I have telnet access?
No. As a security measure, we restrict telnet/SSH access to dedicated customers only.
Can I use a membership system to password protect my directories?
Yes. We fully support iBill, CCBill and every other membership management system available.

You can also use .htaccess to secure your members area.
I need SSL (https). How can I get it?
We can set you up on a shared SSL certificate for a small monthly fee of $12 per month.

If you wish to purchase your own certificate, you can have us install it for you for a one-time setup fee of $75.
How much does a web site cost?
AWD offers free consultation for web publishing & development. The services vary; therefore it is up to you and how much you want to spend. We have published web sites as little as $100.
How do I get a Domain Name?
AWD offers Domain Services. From our home page, click on the “Domain Registration” on the left, and the system will walk you through the process. Getting a Domain Name through AWD is easy, fast, and reliable. We also offer Domain Names for as little as 50% OF OUR COMPETITOR’S PRICING.
